Sounds in the house that keep you awake....without you realizing it.

Noise in the house that might make you sleepless…without realizing it

Many times, insomnia doesn't stem from stress but from "background noise" that the brain perceives constantly.Even if the sound is very low,the brain still processes it throughout the night.

Sleep research from the World Health Organization (WHO) states that

Night noise exceeding approximately 30 dB can disturb sleep quality. And when the sound is higher than 40–45 dB, it can lead towaking up in the middle of the night, light sleep, increased heart rate, and brain alertness even when the body is asleep. Interestingly, these sounds are often ones we "get used to without realizing it."

Examples of sounds in the house that many people never notice, such as:

  • Air conditioner compressor noise
  • Refrigerator noise
  • Car noise from the street
  • Appliance noise
  • Water flowing in pipes
  • Door closing from the adjacent room

These sounds are typically between 30–50 dB, which is a level the brain can still perceive constantly.

The human brain is designed to be alert to unfamiliar sounds, such as:

  • Passing car sounds
  • Impact noises
  • Door closing sounds

Even if the sound is not very loud, the brain will try to check "if it's safe or not," thus causing sleep interruptions in phases, even if we don't realize we're waking up.

And this is what many homes overlook.

Many residences are not designed with acoustics in mind from the start, leading to problems such as:

  • External sounds easily entering the bedroom
  • Sounds from other rooms penetrating through
  • Room echoes creating a restless atmosphere

All of these directly affect the quality of rest.

The solution is not just closing windows or wearing earplugs, but rather designing the acoustic environment of the residence.

Soundproofing wall systems like Trandar Hitech Wall

are designed to help reduce noise between areas, block external noise from entering rooms, and reduce internal noise from disturbing other areas in the house.

At the same time, using sound-absorbing materials on the ceiling helps create a calmer and more peaceful room atmosphere, which reduces echoes within the room, softening the sound in the space and making the atmosphere quieter and more comfortable.

Many projects that prioritize rest have started incorporating Acoustic Design into home design, because a good home is not just beautiful, but must also be a space where sound does not disturb your rest.
