Phan Rawang Shooting Range

From Echoing Gunshots to a Sustainable Shooting Range Coexisting with the Community

Royal Thai Army Headquarters x Trandar Acoustics

🔍 Project Details

Project : 1,000-Inch Shooting Range

Client : Protection and Security Battalion, Secretariat of the Office of the Secretary to the Royal Thai Army Headquarters

Type : Indoor Shooting Range

Process : Acoustics Survey → Solution Design → Installation → Real-World Measurement

Materials Used : Trandar Hitech Wall & Ceiling + ZIVANA Wall System + Series E
Results : Over 60% noise reduction across all testing distances

Maximum Noise Level Before Installation : 118 dB (Distance 1)

Noise Level After Installation : 62.2 dB (Distance 1)

"When vital national missions must continue, but the resulting noise impacts the surrounding community — what is the best solution?"

"Can noise really be reduced? From 118 dB down to 62 dB — figures proving that acoustic technology truly changes lives."

"Sound management is not a distant concept, but a responsibility to everyone's quality of life."

📖 Project Story — When a National Organization Chooses to Care Beyond the Minimum Requirement
The 1,000-inch shooting range of the Protection and Security Battalion, Secretariat of the Office of the Secretary to the Royal Thai Army Headquarters, is a vital training facility for national personnel readiness. Missions here cannot and should not stop.
However, alongside these missions, the Battalion places equal importance on responsibility toward the surrounding area and community.
While shooting range noise is inevitable, allowing it to disturb neighbors' lives is a choice — and the Battalion chose to fix it by partnering with Trandar Acoustics to find and design the best solution for this range.

🔬 Understand the Problem Before Solving It — The Acoustics Survey Mission
The first step taken by the Trandar Acoustics team upon taking on this project was not offering products, but conducting an on-site acoustic survey and systematic environmental analysis.
Because sound behaves differently in every space, building structures, construction materials, spatial dimensions, and sound propagation directions are all variables that prevent off-the-shelf solutions from ever delivering optimal results.
The Survey Process for Precise Results
Structure and Sound Reflection Survey: The team analyzed the reflection and propagation of sound waves inside and outside the building to identify points where noise leaks most into the community.
Comprehensive Testing Point Planning (Sound Mapping): Strategically established noise measurement points across four distance tiers covering both interior spaces and the surrounding community radius.
Industry-Standard Sound Level Meters: Calibrated equipment was used to ensure all recorded data is accurate, precise, and provides a reliable foundation for solution design.
Once testing commenced, baseline noise levels at each distance were recorded for the first time, with the closest point (Distance 1) registering as high as 118 dB before gradually attenuating at further distances. This data set forms the core of the subsequent solution design.

🛠 A Custom-Designed Solution Specially Tailored for This Range
Based on the detailed survey data, Trandar Acoustics designed an integrated acoustic system that simultaneously solves problems in two dimensions: sound insulation for exterior containment and interior acoustic quality control.

Trandar Hitech Wall & Ceiling System — Walls and Ceilings Blocking Internal Noise
Hitech Wall & Ceiling System serves as the primary acoustic barrier for the range, utilizing a structure specifically engineered to block high-intensity sound waves from escaping through walls and ceilings.
Choosing this as the core system aligns with findings from the Acoustics Survey, which revealed that most noise leaked through the building's walls and ceiling structures. Creating a robust acoustic barrier at these points provides the most targeted solution.

Trandar ZIVANA Wall System — Enhancing Internal Sound Absorption Efficiency
ZIVANA Wall System works in tandem with Hitech Wall & Ceiling to manage echo and reverberation inside the range.
In a high-energy shooting environment, unabsorbed sound bounces back and forth, accumulating energy. ZIVANA helps reduce this accumulation, significantly lowering the sound energy attempting to leak outward before the primary sound insulation system acts as the final defense layer.

Trandar Series E — T-Bar Grid Ceiling System Perfect in Both Appearance and Performance
Trandar Series E is a T-Bar Grid ceiling system that neatly and aesthetically finishes the ceiling underside while further enhancing internal sound absorption performance.
A complete ceiling system not only keeps the space looking orderly but also seals gaps through which sound might otherwise leak, ensuring the overall system operates comprehensively without weak points.

📊 Real Measured Results — Figures That Speak Volumes
Following the installation of the comprehensive system, the Trandar team returned on-site to measure actual noise levels using the same standard equipment for transparent and accurate results comparison.

Testing Distance Before Installation After Installation Reduction
 Distance 1 118 dB 62.2 dB -55.8 dB
 Distance 2 112 dB 51.2 dB -60.8 dB
 Distance 3 106 dB 47.5 dB -58.5 dB
 Distance 4 103 dB 47.0 dB -56.0 dB

Average noise reduction of over 60% across all testing distances
These are not merely technical figures, but tangible changes experienced daily by the surrounding community. Sounds that previously echoed into neighboring areas have been controlled to safe levels, no longer causing disturbance.

Project Outcomes — A Range That Meets Demands on Both Fronts
Once all Trandar systems were installed and successfully tested, this 1,000-inch shooting range became a space that comprehensively fulfills requirements in both dimensions.
Inside the range, training continues efficiently. Personnel can practice to their full potential in an environment with better noise control, reducing long-term impacts on hearing health.
Outside the training ground, the surrounding community has regained its peace. The once-reverberating noise has been significantly reduced, allowing the training area and the local community to coexist in a balanced and sustainable manner.
"True responsibility is not just about completing one's own mission, but ensuring that the mission does not negatively impact others. This is what the Security Battalion has proven in this project."
