Live music pubs…how to prevent echoes from ruining the atmosphere?

Many might think that a live music venue is normally loud. But in reality, what differentiates a "fun to listen to" venue from one where the "sound is all muddled" is the acoustics of the space.

Decommune Pub is a space that regularly hosts musical performances, including live music, DJ sets, and other musical events. This means that a large amount of sound is constantly generated in the same area. When sounds from musical instruments, speakers, and people's conversations reflect back and forth within the venue, it leads to a problem of accumulated echoes in the space.

Even though it's a venue with the energy of music, if there's too much reverberation, listeners will start to feel the sound is “overwhelming” and uncomfortable to listen to.

The project therefore required a solution to control echoes in the space without destroying the venue's atmosphere.

Solution : Using the Ceiling to Control Room Acoustics

One of the surfaces that has the most impact on sound in a space is the ceiling, as sounds from music and speakers often reflect up to the ceiling before scattering back down throughout the venue.

The Decommune Pub project chose to use Trandar ZIVANA Ceiling acoustic panels as part of the sound control system within the space.

A material that absorbs sound and creates atmosphere in the space. Trandar ZIVANA is a Wood Wool Panel acoustic board made from high-quality wood fibers mixed with Portland cement.

The open wood fiber structure allows the material to effectively absorb echoes within the room. When installed on the ceiling, ZIVANA panels will help to:

After installing Trandar ZIVANA acoustic panels on the ceiling, reverberation within the venue noticeably decreased. The atmosphere of the space transformed from sound reflecting throughout the venue into a space where music is clearer and listeners can perceive sound details better. For live music venues, the acoustics of the space are not a minor issue, because controlling the room's sound is one of the crucial components that allows music to be delivered at its full potential.
