When “walls” and “ceilings” don't just enclose a space, but help design the sound of the entire room

            In spaces like an Auditorium, everything is designed to support communication, whether it's the stage, lighting, or audience seating. But there's one element that many might not immediately see: the room's surface. This is because in rooms with hard walls, high ceilings, and large open spaces, sound can easily bounce back and forth, creating echo and reverberation that make listening unclear.

This was the challenge for the project Cheer Viva Auditorium, which aimed to create a performance and activity space with balanced sound quality and a continuous design throughout the room.

The Origin of the Concept: When Sound Design Must Go Hand-in-Hand with Space Design

For this auditorium, the design concept didn't just aim for installing sound-absorbing panels in certain areas, but wanted acoustic materials to become an integral part of the room's design.

The design team therefore chose Trandar ZIVANA as the main material for the space, installing it continuously from the walls up to the ceiling to create a visually continuous surface for the room.

This type of design results in:

• The room's surface has depth and uniqueness.

  Solution Approach: Controlling Sound Reflection from All Directions of the Room

  In large spaces like an Auditorium, sound waves don't just reflect from one side of the wall, but can reflect from the walls, ceiling, and all surrounding surfaces of the room.

  The continuous installation of Trandar ZIVANA on both walls and ceiling effectively increases the sound absorption area of the room.

  The result is:

  • Reduces echo within the space.
    

  • Reduces sound reflection from walls and ceilings.
    

  • Helps make speech or music within the room clearer.

  The Cheer Viva Auditorium project demonstrates that current sound-absorbing materials are not merely elements hidden behind a design. Instead, they can clearly become an integral part of the space's design language. When walls, ceilings, and acoustic systems are designed to work together, the space not only has aesthetic appeal but also sound quality suitable for its actual use.
