Why is a “Sport Hall” the most reverberant space?

Have you ever noticed that when you are in an Indoor Sport Hall, the sound of whistles, balls hitting the floor, coaches shouting instructions, or even music from speakerstend to echo and bounce around inside the room. When sounds are produced during use, sound energy reflects back and forth between walls and ceilings, creating Reverberation within the space.

This is one of the key acoustic challenges for the Sport Hall at the ZIVANA at Macao project.

When indoor sports halls must handle high sound levels

The Sport Hall of this projectis designed to accommodate a wide variety of sporting activities.

Throughout daily use,the space must manage significant noise levels, such as:

• Sounds of sports activities
  

• Coaching or training sounds
  

• Announcements or audio system sounds
  

• Sounds from activities of users within the court
  
  

When these sounds occur simultaneously in a large space, continuous reflections are generated, causing excessive reverberation within the venue atmosphere.

The resulting impact is unclear communication between coaches and players, and the space's usability atmosphere may be less comfortable than it should be.

Solution Guidelines: Using Acoustic Wall Systems

To control reverberation within the Sport Hall, the ZIVANA Wall System was chosen as an acoustic wall system designed tohelp absorb sound reflections in large spaces.

ZIVANA panels are made from natural European pine wood fibers mixed with white cement (Wood Wool Panel) featuring an open-fiber structure. This material property allowssound energy hitting the walls to be absorbedrather than reflected back into the space.

The result is
reduced echo within the arena, improved communication, and greater clarity for sounds generated inside the space.

Good acoustics make sports facilities better to use

Following the installation of the ZIVANA Wall System, the atmosphere of the Sport Hall transformed significantly. Communication between coaches and players became much clearer, and activity sounds within the arena no longer reflected back to disrupt the surrounding space, allowing training sessions, competitions, and various activities to run much more smoothly.
