Recreation Room

Why do homes with glass need acoustic design? The answer is in this project

Why do beautiful glass rooms have echoes?

Many homes designed with open, airy spaces, featuring extensive glass and steel structures, unknowingly encounter the same issue: reverberation and echoes inside the room. This makes conversations, listening to music, or relaxing less comfortable than they should be.

This problem frequently occurs in areas with glass, hard surfaces, and high ceilings, as these materials reflect almost all sound, causing it to bounce around the room continuously.

Project Recreation Room is one example of a space that urgently requires a serious acoustic solution.

Project Details

Project Name: Project Recreation Room

Interior Contractor: SPN Service and Construction Co., Ltd.

Project Concept: Wanted a recreation room that is fully functional and free of internal echoes and reverberations.

Products Used: Trandar SeriesF

The Origin of the Problem: A Beautiful Living Room with Excessive Echo

The homeowner expanded the reception area into a new living room, designed to be a relaxing space for family gatherings and activities.

This new space was designed to be open, airy, and modern, utilizing:

  • Steel structures as the main framework

  • Glass walls all around

  • High gable roof

Despite the beautiful design and abundance of natural light, the characteristics of these materials caused noticeable echo and reverberation problems within the room.

The results were:

  • Conversations bouncing back and forth

  • A lack of acoustic comfort in the room

  • The space was less comfortable than expected for relaxation or hosting guests.

This is a very common issue in glass rooms or steel-structured spaces.

Solution: Designing an acoustic system for the space

The team analyzed the spatial characteristics and found that the roof ridge ceiling is the most suitable location for installing sound-absorbing materials to help reduce sound reflection inside the room.

The chosen solution is

Trandar SeriesF

an acoustic ceiling designed to absorb sound and reduce echoes within the space.

Trandar SeriesF ceilings were installed along the roof ridge to help control sound reflection in rooms with high ceilings.

After installation, the results are:

  • Significantly reduced reverberation in the room

  • A quieter and more comfortable living room atmosphere

  • Clearer speech intelligibility

  • The space is fully functional as designed

Another Key Priority: Family Safety and Well-being

Since this area serves as a family living room used by children, the selected materials must prioritize hygiene and safety.

Trandar SeriesF ceilings feature user-friendly hygienic properties, helping to create a safe indoor environment suitable for everyone in the family, including young children.

From an echoey glass room to a perfectly relaxing space

    Project Recreation Room demonstrates that
beautiful space design alone may not be enough if acoustic quality within the space is not taken into account.

Integrating Acoustic Design from the problem-solving stage transforms a previously echoey space into a quiet, comfortable, and truly functional living room.

And this is another example of how solutions from Trandar help elevate the quality of living spaces through acoustic design tailored for practical use.
