AUA Language Center

The new building of AUA (American University Alumni Language Center), featuring striking red-brick architecture in the Ratchadamri area, has been modernised while perfectly preserving its classic AUA identity, welcoming visitors for public use.

Standing as a 7-story red-brick building along Ratchadamri Road, it is designed as an architectural landmark symbolizing the cultural connection between Thailand and the United States, much like educational institutions in both countries that frequently incorporate brick architecture. The expanded building functions go beyond a traditional language school, now accommodating markets, film screenings, concerts, theatre performances, as well as a library and an auditorium.

AUA Language Center

The Auditorium at AUA Language Center is designed as a multi-purpose or multi-functional space with a capacity of 220 people. It can be used for seminars, as a theatre, or as a room for concerts and stage performances, perfectly meeting various needs. The designer chose to use hard surfaces throughout the entire room.

Starting from the walls, as soon as you enter the AUA building, you will readily notice that both sides feature brick masonry walls. Choosing brick walls here helps with sound diffusion.

Auditorium at AUA Language Center

With the Auditorium at AUA Language Center designed this way, the room requires an appropriate RT value. Reverberation Time, which many people might not yet be familiar with, is the duration sound persists in an enclosed space after the source has stopped. Choosing the right RT value for this room depends on 3 factors: room function, room volume, and room shape.

Trandar Acoustic collaborated with the designer on the acoustic design, helping to simulate the room's RT value to achieve an optimal level that does not disturb users. Trandar recommended installing acoustic ceilings, which were the only remaining available surface area in the room. We suggested using Trandar Series F acoustic ceiling panels from Trandar.
