Before buying sound-absorbing materials, try these 5 steps first. It helps way more than you think 👇

Hard floors like tile or wood cause sound to bounce around the room. Carpeting helps reduce floor reflections somewhat, especially footsteps or impact sounds. But if the room also suffers from echo issues off the walls or ceiling, carpets alone are not enough.

Curtains help absorb high-frequency sounds slightly, particularly reflections from glass windows which typically bounce sound more strongly than general walls. However, excessively thin curtains have almost no effect; they need to be sufficiently thick and dense to yield noticeable results.

Seal gaps under doors or wall cracks
Sound often leaks through small gaps much easier than expected. Sealing gaps with rubber seals or foam helps reduce sound leakage to a certain degree, but if the walls or doors themselves lack acoustic properties, sealing gaps alone has very limited effectiveness.
